BRACU inaugurates Chess Club & School Chess programme

The inauguration programme of BRAC University Chess Club & BRAC School Chess program was held on May 21, 2015 at BRAC University Auditorium. The club aims to utilise chess as a tool to develop students’ analytical skills and cognitive abilities. In addition to that, BRAC School Chess Program intends to hunt chess talents from different BRAC schools. Vice Chancellor of BRAC University Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb attended as the chief guest of the programme and Grandmaster Niaz Murshed, the first grandmaster from South Asia and also the trainer of the club, presented the key-note speech. Mahmud Hasan from BRAC Education Project and Saiful Tariq, Secretary General, Bangladesh Chess Federation attended as special guests. Among others, Dr. Aparna Islam, Director, Office of Co-curricular Activities; Shams Ud Duha, Advisor of the club and Sameer Hossain, President of the club also spoke on the occasion. Apart from inauguration, there was also a rapid chess match between the Vice-Chancellor and Grandmaster Niaz Murshed.
